You only have to do a very few things right in your life so long as you don’t do too many things wrong. – Warren Buffett
There are many decisions we will make in our lives that will affect our futures significantly such as who we will marry, what faith (if any) we commit ourselves to and the careers we take on. However, one of the most financially significant decision you will make, regardless of how much money you have, will be your home and/or real estate investments.
Working as a REALTOR® you see all sorts of people, but my favorite type of client is the one that listens to what I say even though they are bouncing off the walls eager to write an offer on every great property we visit. I like it because I get an opportunity to teach them how important it is to get it right the first time and to ensure they make a solid investment.
One of the most prominent memories I have was a young couple looking for their first home! They were not unintelligent at all, but just didn’t have a lot of experience in the real estate world. Like many couples in love, they dreamt about owning that log cabin in the woods – and we did find one! However, after talking about the MANY responsibilities owning a log home comes with (regular spraying for carpenter ants, filling in new cracks in the logs, staining every 5 to 10 years, taking moisture readings every month on the walls), they saw that all the work may put a damper on the mood.
As a REALTOR® I’m obligated to fully inform my clients and to prepare them for what lies ahead, even if they did choose to buy the log home. My point of telling you this story is that I’ve known, and heard of, many REALTORS® that didn’t have their priorities in check and would rather make a buck than educate their clients.
It’s essential that you find a REALTOR® that puts you first. In fact, that is the reason my three free services that help you find a REALTOR® even exist – because the system is broken. While most REALTORS® are upstanding, there are many that tarnish the reputation.
Look – I’m not trying to sell you a home or get your listing. I just want you to find a high integrity REALTOR® that cares about you and puts you first – someone that is known for excellence.
If you want to ensure you avoid the bad apples, I encourage you to use my service and take away the risk of a real estate nightmare. Click here for more info, or don’t – but consider the importance of getting this ‘right’.
